Golden Gate

The Golden Gate Bridge is one of the world’s longest and tallest bridges, and it is also the city of San Francisco’s most revered and representative icon. The only way to navigate the San Francisco Bay before the bridge was by ferry, and the bay was clogged by the vast number of ferries circulating.

As engineer and bridge builder Joseph Strauss became convinced that a bridge should be constructed to cross the bay, he came up with the solution. The Golden Gate Bridge was finally opened in 1937, after years of difficulties during construction.

Alcatraz

Alcatraz, located in San Francisco Bay, was a lonely island for thousands of years before it was converted into a fort. After the Civil War, more than 100 weapons and 400 troops were deployed, making the island part of the United States’ defensive strategy.

Alcatraz was opened as a federal penitentiary in 1934, a high security facility where incorrigible and violent criminals were transported. Alcatraz was permanently closed in 1963. The prison buildings had corroded due to the salt water, and the upkeep costs were excessive. When the jail became unprofitable, the prisoners were sent to other institutions.

Lombard Street

Lombard Street, the steepest street in San Francisco, is located between Hyde and Leavenworth.

Despite the fact that Lombard Street is not the city’s steepest street, it is the most well-known. Hundreds of visitors visit the iconic street every day to capture its 40-degree zigzag slope.

On Lombard Street, the main attraction is watching cars ride down the street like a roller coaster. The best vantage point for taking pictures is at the bottom of the road.

Twin Peaks

Without a doubt, you will get privileged views from Twin Peaks that you can’t get somewhere else. Thanks to its proximity to San Francisco’s geographic heart, there is no better way to view the city than from the top of Twin Peaks, so if you have the opportunity, Twin Peaks should be on your list of places to see.

A residential community has grown up at the bottom of Twin Peaks, with colorful homes carved into the hillside. The easiest way to get to Twin Peaks is by motorcycle, but if you don’t have one, public transportation.

Golden Gate Park

As compared to Central Park in New York, San Francisco’s park is considerably bigger.
Fortunately for tourists, the park has minibuses that can be used as many times as you like for a minimal fee and get to know the park’s most fascinating corners. There are hundreds of charming corners in the park, and getting to know them all will take a long time. The great Dutch mill, the scent garden, several wooded areas with giant ferns, lakes and wetlands, a Japanese garden adorned with bonsai and pagodas,  Shakespeare’s garden are only a few of the most impressive areas.
