Florida Keys

The Florida Keys are an archipelago of about 1700 islands (cays) located south of the coast of Florida, United States. The keys begin about 15 miles south of Miami and extend about 320 km in a south-southwest arc and then west to Key West, the last of the inhabited islands.

The islands are located along the Straits of Florida, forming a natural barrier that divides the Atlantic Ocean to the east from the Gulf of Mexico to the west. The southern tip of Key West is only about 151 km from Cuba.  The Florida Keys are one of the most popular destinations for American tourists, thanks to the combination of proximity to the country and wonderful beaches.

Devil's Den Prehistoric Springs

Swim in gorgeous Devil’s Den Spring, one of North America’s most prehistoric places naturally formed within a dry cave. This underground spring,  located in Williston, Florida, has been home to many extinct animal fossils dating back 2.6 million years.

It’s a place that people have been using for thousands of years. On cold winter mornings you can see steam, rising from the chimney opening.  The sparkling spring water is a comfortable 72 degrees all year round.

Everglades National Park

Everglades National Park is one of the 58 national parks of the United States. It is located in the state of Florida. This national park has been on the UNESCO World Heritage List since 1979.

The largest animals living in the Everglades are alligators, crocodiles, panthers, brown bears, river otters and white-tailed deer. In the Everglades also live numerous lizards and snakes that have adapted to the way of life in the waters.  Everglades are home to about 350 different species of birds such as the pink heron, sea swallow, common white heron, ibis and many other species.

Kennedy Space Center

Kennedy Space Center is a space and facility located near Cape Canaveral in Florida. It was built with the initial goal of serving as a launch site for the Saturn V rocket, the largest and most powerful functional space vehicle in history. Proposed by US President John F. Kennedy, it sought to serve the Apollo space program.

Since the end of NASA’s Apollo program in 1972, the Kennedy Space Center has been used for all manned space missions since December 1968.

Castillo de San Marcos

Castillo de San Marcos is a Spanish fortress in the city of San Agustín, Florida, United States. The city of San Agustín was founded by Spain in 1565. During its first century of existence, 9 wooden forts defended the position. After the attack of the English pirate Robert Searle in 1667, it was decided to build a stone castle to protect the city.

El Castillo is built with coquina, a variety of limestone. The workers were brought from Havana, Cuba. The coquina was mined from Anastasia Island, across the bay, and shipped to the construction site.
