Wat Phra Chetuphon

Wat Phra Chetuphon, also known as the Temple of the Reclining Buddha, is a Buddhist temple (wat) in the Phra Nakhon district, Bangkok, Thailand. Located between Thai Wang, Sanam Chai, Setthakan and Maharat streets, in an area of 80,937 square meters south of the Grand Palace in Bangkok, its official name is Wat Phra Chetuphon Vimolmangklararm Rajwaramahaviharn.

Covered in gold leaf, at 46 meters long and 15 meters high, the image of the Reclining Buddha at Wat Pho is the largest in Thailand, one of the reasons that led the temple to be one of the most visited by tourism.

The Buddha’s feet are 5 meters long and 3 meters wide, and it is decorated with 108 symbols, in addition to the 108 bronze vessels in the room to leave alms, which are used by the monks to maintain the temple.

Temple Of Dawn (Wat Arun)

Wat Arun is a Buddhist temple ( wat ) in Bangkok , Thailand . The temple is located in the Bangkok Yai district on the west bank of the Chao Phraya River . The full name of the temple is Wat Arunratchawararam Ratchaworamahavihara and is known locally as Wat Chaeng.

The most striking feature of Wat Arun is its central prang (its Khmer-style tower). Quite steep steps lead to the two terraces, the height being 77 meters. 3 The corners of the temple are crowned by four other smaller satellite prangs.

Seashells and porcelain pieces that had previously served as ballast for ships traveling to Bangkok from China were used in the decoration of the temple. Around the base of the towers are several Chinese figures of soldiers and animals. Above the second terrace are four statues of the Hindu god Indra riding on Erawan.

Chatuchak Weekend Market

The Chatuchak Market, located in northern Bangkok , is a weekend market, the largest in Thailand and one of the largest in the world. It occupies an area of 140.000m², and has between 8,000 and 15,000 stalls, and Saturday and Sunday is usually visited daily by about 200,000 people.

Open since 1983 , the Chatuchak Market has 27 sections divided into fresh fruits and vegetables, flowers and garden plants, antiques, toys, books, crafts, tableware, furniture and decorations, clothing and accessories, ceramic pieces, works of art, and pets, although you can also find all kinds of items throughout the market. It also has an extensive and varied food and beverage section.

Jim Thompson House

The Jim Thompson House is a museum house of Bangkok , located in the district of Pathumwan.

It is a complex consisting of several ancient Thai housing structures created by US businessman Jim Thompson (1906-1967). It is currently a popular tourist attraction in Bangkok.

Jim Thompson, a former spy officer of the Office of Strategic Services who became a prominent silk entrepreneur, was a Southeast Asian art collector. His collection consisted of statues, paintings and porcelain from Thailand, Burma, Cambodia and Laos.

After Jim Thompson’s mysterious disappearance in 1967, the house was opened to the public and today is administered by the James HW Thompson Foundation under the patronage of Princess Sirindhorn.

Temple of the Emerald Buddha (Wat Phra Kaew)

The Temple of the Emerald Buddha is a Buddhist temple ( wat ) in Bangkok, Thailand. The full name of the temple is Wat Phra Sri Rattana Satsadaram. It is the most important Buddhist temple in Thailand, located in the historic center of Bangkok (Phra Nakhon district), within the grounds of the Grand Palace of Bangkok.

Construction of the temple began when King Buddha Yodfa Chulaloke (Rama I) moved the capital from Thonburi to Bangkok in 1785. Unlike other temples, it does not contain any place for monks, but only has sacred buildings, statues and pagodas with rich decoration.

The wall surrounding the temple is decorated with scenes from the Thai version of the Ramayana mythology, the Ramakian. The temple also contains a model of Angkor Wat, added by King Nangklao (Rama III), since the Khmer Empire of Cambodia and the Thais share the same cultural and religious roots.
