Newark Liberty International Airport, which first opened its doors on October 1, 1928, is one of the country’s most modern. It serves the state of New Jersey as well as the entire New York metropolitan area, as well as the airports of JFK and La Guardia.

Location and communications

Access by taxi

Both terminals have vehicles available outside. The fare to downtown Newark is USD15.00-18.00 (25-40 minutes), and it is USD50.00-70.00 to New York (30-60 min.)

Access by bus

There are NJ Transit services to the city, and most of them link to New York City buses. The cost of a ticket is USD1.60.
Coach USA operates the Newark Airport Express, an express service that runs every 30 minutes from 4:00 a.m. to 1:15 a.m. between the airport and New York City. The cost is USD17.00, and the ride takes 90-120 minutes.

Trans-Bridge Lines with rates ranging from USD23.00 to USD34.00, offers regular transportation to Allentown, South Bethlehem, Easton, Phillipsburg, Quakertown, Doylestown, Dublin, Lahaska, New Hope, Lambertville, Clinton, Flemington, and Branchburg.

Buses can be boarded on level 1 of the three terminals, just outside the baggage claim center. Share minibus services are also available and can be booked at the information desks.

Access by train

Passengers are transported to the airport station by the AirTrain train (fare: USD7.75).

Amtrak services available to Boston, Providence, Hartford, New York, Washington, DC, Richmond, Petersburg, Norfolk, and Virginia Beach are available on the Northeast Regional line.

There are also NJ Transit trains bound for Newark Penn Station (USD10.75, 6-7 minutes of travel) and New York (USD15.25, 30 min. of travel), between 4:50 am and 2:20 am. At Penn Station, connections can be made with PATH trains that go to Jersey City, Hoboken and Manhattan.
