Lisbon airport facilities are typical for a large international airport, with plenty of duty-free shops, restaurants and decent lounges. There is an abysmal difference between the services and the quality of Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 which serves low-cost flights.
Can you spend the night at the airport?
Lisbon airport is quite friendly for those passengers who have an early morning flight and have to spend the night inside the airport. Its terminals remain open 24 hours a day, although most services are interrupted during the early morning hours. It is advisable to have blankets or a sleeping bag, since the air conditioning is usually strong.
There are places to drink and eat 24 hours
Terminal 1 has some food stalls both in the public area and in the boarding area that remain open throughout the night.
Where to rest?
Although the two terminals remain open, Terminal 1 is more comfortable, while Terminal 2 has a greater gastronomic and commercial variety, although everything is closed at dawn. Next to gates S19 and S20 of Terminal 1 there are special rest areas. There are also couches near the food court and on the upper level, and quiet corners by doors 40-50. Another option is to enter one of the VIP lounges, where you can access greater comforts and privacy. The only challenge is that they close at nighttime but next to Terminal 1 there are two hotels.
Showers are available at Lisbon airport
Showers available in the VIP rooms.
Passengers with disabilities
Facilities include accessible ramps, elevators, telephones and toilets, and reserved parking spaces. Passengers requiring special assistance or wheelchairs are advised to notify their airline or travel agency of their needs at the time of booking.
Is there a luggage storage service?
Lisbon airport has a reasonably priced luggage storage facility that is very useful if you have already left the hotel but don’t want to carry heavy suitcases everywhere. The price for 24 hours is € 3.36 for up to 10 kg, € 4.98 for 10-30 kg and € 9.87 for +30 kg. The office is near the P2 car park.
Does Lisbon airport have free Wi-Fi?
There is free Wi-Fi in all airport buildings, but it is often slow (due to excess demand), especially in Terminal 2. The free Wi-Fi network is “VINCI Airports Wifi” and requires an e-mail address to register.
Other services
Currency exchange: It is located in the arrivals hall of Terminal 1 if you need to change currency urgently, but it is much more sensible to change the currency at hotel (or in the center of Lisbon) to get better prices. The currency of Portugal is Euro.
ATM: If you need cash, there are ATMs in the arrivals hall of Terminal 1.
Duty-free: In Terminal 1 there is a good selection of duty-free shops, but the shopping area in Terminal 2 is very limited. In general, alcohol and cigarettes are much cheaper in supermarkets.
VAT refund: If you reside outside of Europe, you may be entitled to a VAT refund (23%) On items with a price above € 50 (such as a camera, a phone or expensive gifts) in the stores affiliated to the program (called “Tax Free Shopping”).
WARNING: There is no transfer on airplanes from Terminal 1 to Terminal 2, always plan enough time if you have to change flights. To go from Terminal 1 to Terminal 2, you have to go through immigration, collect your luggage, go through customs, get on the bus that goes from T1 to T2, check in your luggage, go through security and then through immigration.
This can be a very long and time-consuming process, so always go ahead if you have another flight to catch. If you miss your flight on a low-cost airline, they will not look for a place for you in the next one, but will wait for you to buy another ticket.
